Abstract

  • remove brackets from names if mentioning them in an abstract — makes it look like a reference
  • abstracts do not have references in them
  • leave out names totally if possible
  • some like the following: “prominent flocking model are assessed for future car flocking models”
  • trying to communicate the “reason behind” / why should we care / what is the angle of the piece
  • possible to write something like “it is concluded by criterion X, Y, Z that the most successful ITEM is ABC, because of reasons d,e,f”
  • note: always seeking precision when writing — remove statements like “in general”, use “ithas been identified”

Other

  • honey bees and flocking: do they simply fly in a straight line?
  • phase change of flocking: when do birds move from flying in clusters to flying in harder formations?

Monday writing: am very scared!!! …

Filed under: Notes — JDE @ 6:18 pm

Over the weekend I reviewed the reports I have written so far. Prior to this, with rose tinted glasses firmly afixed to my forehead, I distinctly remember them being works of art, seminal, true gold. Nuh-urgh big boy, hold your horses and slow down there: they are really rather poor. It’s incredible when I look back and think how much time they took me to write as well. Sigh.

But at least I’ve looked, and good grief am I now motivated! 3 months to get a transfer report in … it’s going to be tight from what I can tell. I have a lot of information in my head, but tracking down the right reference and committing it to paper will be a challenge. Plus I desperately need a section on automated driving.

So I have something (quite poor) to begin with, which is a start. Tonight I’ve written the roadmap for the introduction, so I have some thing to guide me forwards .. and upwards, hopefully.
