Transfer presentation

Questions from floor

  • shape appears as a larger animal both in cluster and flocks
  • aerodynamics, or wing shape reynolds number
  • why no simulations
  • easy to produce 50cm gap with cars, use collision avoidance system
  • UAV formation — why use one, what is need
  • “new shape” for benefit of effect discovered. Show through simulation. Design and optimise unusual car shapes
  • information exchange between cars non-easy / difficult to achieve. Control through optic flow.
  • vehicle routing and requirement for safety: do birds bump into each other?
  • couple with other solutions for safety.
  • stabiliyt of flocks cf. vehicles moving at same speed / velocity
  • stability and noise / disturbance

Comments

  • pictched at easy level — e.g. add in equations for boids
  • try not to use mathematical equations / constructs in bullets or quoloqualisms
  • could show videos
  • less use of “okay” at end of sentence

Transfer examination

  • novel contribution: flocking to traffic flow
  • lack of engineering aspects
  • not swarm intelligence study
  • simulated algorithms at one with simulations
  • prove scientific hypothesis through simulation
  • require engineering manner and approach
  • needs to be mathematically sound
  • next year: provide tangible simulation / meat
  • peripheral / descriptive — need to implement
  • build slowly: simple optimisation — one, two, three parameters; constraints
  • 12 months not publishable
  • explore numerically
  • research methods — look into next academic year
  • anova, factorial design of experiment
  • action: SJN & low cost experiments

Notes

  • fluent
  • joining / leaving
  • emprical vs numerical; strap instruments to cars
  • treat current report as thesis intro
  • hypothesis testing
  • Thales, highway agency, traffic simulations – base data
  • 10 – 15% reading per week
  • 28-Nov F2F @ 2pm
